Spanish 3 students have been studying the Ven Conmigo Unit 9 and 10 entitled Los Andes. Students will create an original travel poster related to Colombia, Perú, Ecuador, Bolivia or Chile. They will write the text, illustrate their posters, and post them on the web. In preparation for this project, students will collaborate on research on one of those five countries. They will organize the information they find and will do a formal presentation for their classmates.

1. As a homework assignment students will research the text for their oral presentation. They will pick highlights of each country and create their poster. The poster will include the following:
   • the name of the country and its capital
   • perhaps major cities of interest and their attractions
   • graphics such as the country's flag and map
   • the monetary unit
   • appropriate photos with requested permission
   • hot links to a minimum of five sites related to the information displayed on their poster
2. Students will spend five class periods working in the USCALC. They will create their poster using Macromedia Fireworks and they will publish their poster using Adobe PageMill.
   Students will make a folder in the "Los Andes" folder in curricular to hold all their work.
3. After a brief introduction to Fireworks, students following the step by step instructions, will create their poster using the "Text" tool and the "drawing" tools available in Fireworks.
4. They are to enhance their text using the stroke, fill end effects options.
5. They can incorporate illustrations from the 525,000 graphics available from the"Art Explosion"
   CDs or or acquire online graphics from free clip art sites.
6. Students will remember to save their work in two formats: the PNG format, so that they can alter their work if correction is needed, and in the GIF format to be placed on their web page.
7. Once the poster is completed all students will open Page Mill, and following the step by step instructions furnished, they will place the graphic on the page, and make a link back to the student index page.
8. Students may also enhance their page with color in the background, etc.

By completing this project, Spanish 3 students will have increased their global awareness and will have learned about the diverse culture of the Andean countries of South America, and they will have gained new technology skills by utilizing the Fireworks and Adobe PageMill applications in order to create a poster which can be displayed on our website.
