"Original Names"

Florida was named by Ponce de Leon and it is speculated that he named it that because when he discovered Florida it was covered in flowers or because the time of year was Easter. Florida's names means "flowers."

Miami was named by Indians from the area that remembered some of the big storms therefore it was named Miami which means "big water."
