St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States, and was founded by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles, who was an experienced admiral for Spain. The city is located in northeast Florida, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal Waterway.

Eleven days later, Menendez and his 600 soldiers conquered an Indian village and named it St. Augustine. St. Augustine is the oldest permanent European settlement on the North American continent.
