Little Havana And Its Food

Little Havana is a region in Florida where Cubans and Dominican Republicans live. Since there is such a variety of culture in Little Havana, there are many aspects such as food and dress. Some exotic fruits and vegetables include soursop, guava, mamey, sweet potatoes, mangoes, plaintains, and sweet corn. All of these are very useful, but corn is the most useful of all. Corn is used to make puddings, cocktails, soups, and even milkshakes. Another favorite in this region is guacamole. There are even methods of cooking that have been passed on to the Cubans from European settelers. Europeans introduced the idea of barbecue and salting meat for preservation. In Little Havana, food is also used to show friendship or hospitality. Coffee, yams, tobacco, and pineapple are all ways of being hospitable in Little Havana. Some names of popular vegetables were actually derived from native Cuban languages. "Tobacco and "yam" are two words that were actually used by native Cubans hundreds of years ago. Little Havana is a very diverse place full of culture. Many people will visit today and many others future visitors will visit tomorrow.
