Dear Mr. Macaw,
Hi, my name is Shelbe A. Quetzal. I think that it's SOOOO cool we get to have penpals. But we don't know anything about each other! I would like to know aboutYOU. But, since I'm writing the first letter, I'll start:
Since you're a Macaw and I"m a Quetzal, we don't know anything about each other and their ways of life. I'll give you a little back ground on me and my life; I have emerald green feathers, and a reddish-purple chest. I'm 15 to 30" long, and my train (tail) is 3 feet long! My feet may be small and weak, but They are known for catching prey and tearing things apart and eating them. Gross, huh?
Speaking of tearing things apart and eating things, I like to eat avocados, lizards, bugs, tree frogs, and snails. YUMMMMM!!!! They're delicious! But anyway, my family and I are very cautious. We protect our tree home very well, but this is our fourth home! Humans are cutting down our homes! Isn't that rude! I used to have a younger brother, but he got caught on a branch, and our home was being cut down at the time. I tried to save him, but a branch fell, and I couldn't get to him. I never saw him again. I'm sorry if that darkened your day, but I have nightmares about that happening to me. I'm sorry. But that shows that humans are our enemies. And Ocelots. They eat us, and destroy our homes. I'm sorry again. But it's that truth. Sometimes I wish I wasn't a Quetzal.
I know this might sound a little bit rushing, but my mom told me. I was born in a sky blue egg. SO PRETTY!!! My mom and dad took turns sitting on me. I wondered why. But, hey! That's us! My mom and dad mated on February 2nd. And I was born one month later, March 2nd.
That's really all. I'm not an important bird, or a famous bird, like the Harpy Eagle, but I'm a nice bird, and a nice LOOKING bird, at that. Write back soon telling me about you. I can't wait to hear from you! Bye!
Sincerely,
Shelbe A. Quetzal
