Claudius's Rule

He later adopted a policy that stated after someone has served in the military for 25 years that person would receive money. Needless to say this was very popular among the soldiers.

Claudius reshaped the military. He adopted strict security so he would not end up like all of his other relatives, dead. Claudius also got rid of moles in the system, the ones plotting against him.

Claudius was a very smart politician in almost every way. He improved the judicial systems by accelerating procedures, and helping the weak and defenseless. He also allowed more people to become Roman citizens so he could have a more diverse senate. Claudius expanded the central bureaucracy and made it more efficient. He diverted attention from his problems in Rome, Scribonians rebellion, by invading Britain and winning. Claudius settled disputes between the Jews and Greeks and told them not to do anything wrong or they would be in trouble. This gained him the respect of his people and also a stronger military and a bigger empire. He did this by treating the defeated well and gaining the respect of them also. To make everyone happy he distributed power and control rather than letting it reside exclusively with the Italians.

Claudius then realized that he couldn't handle everything on his own. So he surrounded himself with trusted capable assistants. They made many important decisions, but Claudius always was in control.
