Augustus' Family

Augustus was born in 63 BCE on September 23. His mother was Atia, Julius Caesar's niece. Caesar adopted Augustus in his will to become his heir. In 44 BCE, when Caesar died Augustus inherited his power.

At that time there was a triumvirate, which was a rule by three men. The first triumvirate included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus. The second triumvirate was formed after Caesar died, and included Marc Antony, Augustus, and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus.
