Why It Snows

One day, long ago, a young boy named Little Earth had just finish a hot and exciting game of lacrosse.
"Yes!" screamed Little Earth. "We won!" Then he congratulated everyone on their good work playing, and then headed back to his family's wigwam, which are one-room bark huts. He burst in and yelled," guess what father? I won the lacrosse game!"
"Great job, son" his father replied and put down the small statue he was carving out of stone.
"Father, where does the sun come from and why is it always sunny and warm outside?" asked Little Earth.
"Well," announced his father. "It is said that a long time ago, the great golden eagle which is the sun, got in a fight with the great snow white owl, who made it cold and made white stuff fall. But, they would not stop arguing, so the snow white owl left and the golden eagle stayed here. To this day, the snow white owl has not returned."
"Wow," replied Little Earth, very interested." Where can I find the golden eagle? Little Earth really wanted to go to the golden eagle to ask him to forgive the great white owl, so they could have a change.
"You shall find him if you climb the tallest tree. When you get to the top of the tree, grandfather snake will come down to you and ask you what you want. When you tell him, he will call Uncle Hawk, who will take you to your destination."
"Thank you, father." Little Earth called out and ran off. His father just smiled, and knew that he was going to the great golden eagle.
Little Earth went deeper and deeper into the forest looking for the tallest tree. At last he found it, and started to climb up it. He started to grow tired after a while, and wondered if the tree ever ended. But, as he was about to give up and go home, he finally reached the top.
"Hooray!" yelled Little Earth, but as his voice echoed, he heard slithering noises.
"Why are you here?" asked a strange voice, all of a sudden.
"I'm I'm here to see the great golden eagle." replied Little Earth, nervously.
Then, suddenly a snake popped up and answered, "I shall call Uncle Hawk." The snake yelled out, "SSSSSS!" as loud as he could.

Then, in a couple of minutes Uncle Hawk appeared and asked, "Where do you want to go?"
"I want to go to the great golden eagle," replied Little Earth.
"Then hop on my back and I'll take you to him."
They went off, but after a
while the hawk grew tired and announced," I can not take
you any further. I have grown too tired to take you all the way.
So, I will drop you off at the bottom of this very tall mountain
ahead. If you climb it to the top, you'll find the great golden
eagle."
"Okay," replied Little Earth. Then the hawk dropped him off at the mountain.
Little Earth started to climb up the mountain. As he got higher and higher, he got hotter and hotter. It was so hot; that the deerskin Little Earth was wearing was drenched in sweat. Little Earth was very tired, and had to take many rests.
In a couple of hours Little Earth reached the top of the mountain and was thrilled. But, as he stood on the top, he gazed amazingly at what he saw. What he saw was the most gorgeous creature. Right in front of him was the great golden eagle, so golden and bright it hurt his eyes.
All of a sudden, Little Earth forgot about asking the great golden eagle to forgive the snow white owl, and just wanted to take the golden eagle home with him to impress his friends.
Just then, Little Earth thought of a sneaky plan to get the golden eagle home with him. He knew that no one would catch him because his mother was out doing work and his father was out hunting.

"Are you the great golden eagle?" asked Little Earth.
"Why, yes I am." replied the golden eagle." I am the most beautiful creature of all time.
"You certainly are!" exclaimed Chris. " But I bet you would be even more beautiful if you would climb down the mountain farther."
"Really?" asked the golden eagle.
"Oh yes, absolutely. Just follow me and I'll show you where to go."
"Okay," replied the golden eagle. Then they headed down the mountain. But then Chris remembered the Hawk flew him there.
"Oh, great golden eagle. I can't fly, but you can. So I ask you to let me sit on your back, and I'll point you in the direction to go."
"No problem," answered the golden eagle. Then Chris hopped on his back and directed the golden eagle to his house. When they got there,Chris led him inside. He then crept up behind the golden eagle and gagged him and wrapped a blanket around him.
Next he went to get his friend, but he wasn't at home. He noticed that it was very dark, but paid no attention.
At dinner, his father announced, "It's very strange that it got dark so early today. Do you know anything about this, Little Earth?"
Little Earth put down the corn he was about to eat and replied, "no, I don't know anything about it."
All that night, Little Earth couldn't sleep because he knew it was wrong to kidnap the golden eagle.
The next morning, it was still pitch black outside. Little Earth woke up and took the golden eagle outside and took a little piece of the blanket off.
He saw white stuff all over, and it was falling from the sky! He also noticed that it was really cold.
"Oh Manito, my creator, what have I done?" yelled Little Earth. But, suddenly he came up with an idea.
"Oh, golden eagle. I'm sorry for what I've done. Please forgive me. I'm going to bring you back up to your place" replied Little Earth as he unwrapped the blanket.
"I will forgive you," replied the great golden eagle. "Now hop on my back and we'll fly up and you'll make things right."
Then Little Earth hopped on and away they flew. But, when they reached the top of the mountain, they saw an owl as white as Santa Claus's beard sitting on the mountain, shooting white stuff out of its mouth.
"Who are you?" asked Little Earth, puzzled.
"Why, I'm the great snow white eagle. I'm very pretty, aren't I?"
"Well, you may be pretty, but please give my friend, the great golden eagle, his spot back up in the sky?" replied Little Earth.
"The great golden eagle?" yelled the snow white owl. "I wouldn't do anything for him! Where is he, anyway?"
"Right here, under these blankets." Answered Little Earth.
"Oh," replied the great snow white owl.
"Can't you guy's apologize and one of you stay?" asked Little Earth.
"No," they replied together. Luckily, Little Earth just thought of a good idea.
"Well, how about this," announced Little Earth. "Great golden eagle will stay for six months, and then the great snow white owl will stay for the other six months. But, when the great snow white owl comes, the great golden eagle must go far up into the sky, so you two will never be together. Do you guys agree?"
"Well, okay," replied the great golden eagle.
"What about you?" asked Little Earth.
"I guess so, replied the great snow white owl.
Little Earth learned a very valuable lesson that day. He learned to not be greedy, and to leave things as they are.
