Interview with Mr. Garvan
by Casey H., Lisle O., Julie M.
Q: What do you think about the project we are doing?
A: It is really interesting. I'm glad you are doing this. I am worried about the students.
Q: Do you think the people who have heavier backpacks are smarter?
A: It's not based on intelligence. The students worry about their grades and don't want to take a chance. Teachers have more handouts now because of xerox machines and computers.
Q: Do you think it has to do with academics or is it just junk in their backpack?
A: It is only books. No junk. The lockers are the dumping grounds. They make bigger bookbags now so that makes it heavier.
Q: What would you like to see happen in the future?
A: I think we should have better lockers. We need more bookbag stations. Published book bag hints would be nice and exercises that the students could do. I would also like to see the results publicized. Maybe we should also recommend physical therapy. We also need user friendly lockers and also a fundraiser to make money for this cause.
FINAL QUOTE- "It is a classic example of how when you're young, you don't worry about health because you're young."
