Trajan was one of the more successful
Roman emperors, and his accomplishments were many He was also the first emperor
of non-Italian origins, born into a family that had been settled in Spain for
generations. The first adopted emperor of the "Five Good Emperors",
Trajan did much to reaccustom the Senate to the Principate after Domitian's
tyrranny. He was a successful general, particularly in his Dacian campaigns
in modern-day Romania. Some of Rome's most splendid architectural remains are
his--the Forum of Trajan and Trajan's column. At his death he was suceeded by
Hadrian, whom he had adopted.
