How to Use Nicenet.Org

  1. Open up the program called Internet Explorer on the computer.
  2. Type in www.nicenet.org in the address bar.
  3. When the first screen appears, choose ''Join a Class.'' (Your teacher has already established your class with Nicenet. All you have to do is tell Nicenet that you are a member.)
  4. The next screen will ask you to type in a class ''key'' which indicates which class you would like to join. Your class key is: R4********(You have been given this code on your handout.)
  5. At the next screen, type in your personal information. Your user name should be your first name and initial of your last name with no space between them. Also use a password that you will remember. Type in your teacher’s email address (lburnet@germantownacademy.org) when you are asked what your email address is. When the screen asks for your name, please type your first name and only the first initial of your last name.
  6. After you have submitted your personal information, a screen will appear asking you to type in your username and password. Do so.
  7. The next screen to appear will have your class name (in this case ''I, Caesar'') in the upper left corner.

Submitting Your Rough Draft

  1. Once you are logged into Nicenet, click on ''Document'' in the brown menu bar in the left side of your screen.
  2. On the next screen, be sure that the appropriate document heading is selected. In this case you will be submitting Historical Fiction Rough Draft. Therefore, you must be sure that ''Historical Fiction Rough Draft'' is selected as the document you will be turning in.
  3. Once you have selected the proper document, click on ''Turn In''
  4. On the next screen, under ''document title,'' type the title of your document followed by the name of your emperor in parentheses and then your first name and last initial. (For example: ''What an Artist the World is Losing!" (Nero) by Lee B.)
  5. In the ''document text'' window, you will need to cut and paste your Rough Draft. (In order to cut and paste your Rough Draft, you will need to call your Rough Draft up on a word processing program, copy it, and then paste it into the window at Nicenet. You will therefore have to toggle back and forth between a word processing program and Internet Explorer.)
  6. Once you have successfully pasted your document and it is properly formatted, click ''Add Document'' at the bottom of your screen.

How to View Comments Sent to You
