Task
Students will take on the persona of a travel agent in Paris,
France. They will choose two monuments or places of interest from
a list provided by the teacher to research and then present in
an informative, interesting and enticing way in order to attract
tourists to visit their beautiful city. They should provide tourists
with useful information such as location of monument, metro stop,
brief history, explanation of its historical significance, current
uses, etc. They should also include where to go to eat, shop,
take pictures, buy unusual souvenirs or to stop and rest. Students
will prepare two presentations. A traditional two to three page
paper with bibliography will be handed in to the teacher on February
8, 2000 and a power point presentation will be prepared and presented
in class during the week of February 28th.
Process
THE PROCESS
- Students will select two topics,
either from the list provided or in consultation with your teacher.
- Students will research their monuments or places of interest
using the Internet resources provided.
- In your LAN account, you will create
a document in Word in which you will
take notes for each web site
- with appropriate annotations.
- You will write a two to three page paper using the French
spelling when referring to your topics. You will include a bibliography
citing web addresses.
- After gathering research, finding maps, pictures, virtual
tours, images, etc., students will prepare a power point presentation.
You will create at least 7 slides, including a title slide, a
résumé, and bibliography slide. Although most of
this presentation will be in English, all references to the topic
must be spelled and pronounced in French. A résumé
slide in French must be included at the end of the presentation
. This resumé slide will include 3 or 4 sentences explaining
why your monument is interesting to visit.
- To access graphics on the web, you
will return to your note cards to find the address saved. Select
the address and paste it into the location area of Netscape.
When the graphic appears, click and hold the image and select
"copy this image." You may then return to PowerPoint
to paste it on your card.
- Students must gain permission to
use copyrighted graphics by writing to the author of the site.
These permissions need to be part of your bibliography.
- The bibliography should be according
to the MLA citation rules and hyperlinked to the source where
appropriate.
- You will use these slides to illustrate
and summarize points you are making in your presentation.
- All work will be evaluated based on the successful completion
of the attached rubric.
