The Task

After reading and discussing a number of fables written by Jean de la Fontaine and others, you will create your own fable using animal characters that will tell a story and teach a moral lesson. Choose animals that you associate with certain characteristics( i.e. fox cunning, owl wise, dog loyal, etc.). To present your fable to the class you will create a series of slides in PowerPoint. Besides a title slide your slides should contain a list of your main characters, with a brief description of each one and an explaination of the role they play in the story. You will also need to include a list of the main events that occur in a logical sequence, the moral of your story, and finally your story with an illustration. At the time of your presentation each of your peers should receive a printed copy of your presentation.

The Process

To accomplish this task you should do the following:

  1. Access your LAN account on GA Main Server to save all your work.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the characteristics of a fable by using the helpful sites in the list under the Resource section of this Project. If you would like to print your favorite fable to use for inspiration follow the instructions on the multitasking sheet.
  3. As you proceed with your research, you will choose an animal or animals and moral on which to base your fable.
  4. You will write and edit your fable in French.
  5. A rough draft of your fable will be submitted to your teacher by October 29, 1998.
  6. You will create a minumum of six slides using Power Point to help you present your fable to the class. Your slides should include the information discribed in the opening paragraph
  7. Remember you need to include in your presentation an illustration of you fable. Your illustration should be created at home and then scanned to be digitized.
  8. At the time of your presentation, you will hand in a copy of your presentation to your teacher. All presentations are due on November 9, 1998
  9. Your presentation will be assessed according to the attached rubic.

The Conclusion

  1. You will have searched the Internet for a French fable that you will have read and explained in class.
  2. You will have learned how to use the Internet to access relevant information and how to multitask.
  3. You will have created, illustrated and discussed an original fable that you will have presented in class using a Power Point slide show.
  4. You will have learned to process, select and present material in an electronic format which has a professional look with an overall graphic theme that appeals to the audience and compliments the information.
