During the first semester of Spanish 1-2 Honors, you have had an introduction to the history of Spain during the 20th century. You have also studied several great Spanish artists (El Greco, Velázquez, Goya and Picasso) and have had the opportunity to visit the Metropolitan Museum of New York. As a culminating project, you will now use the internet to do research on three royal families--the family of the current king of Spain--Juan Carlos I, and the two royal families immortalized by Velázquez and Goya in their portraits (the family of Felipe IV and the family of Carlos IV.) You will work in three groups and will use the following web sites to organize your information. As you research your topic, you will be practicing your reading comprehension in Spanish since the resources provided are all in Spanish. During our next class meeting you will present the information you have gathered to your classmates.
One group of students will go the the Royal webpage and use the imformation provided to complete the worksheet provided on the peronal data of members of the royal family. A second group will study the painting by Velázquez of the family of Felipe IV. This group will answer the questions provided and will summarize the information provided about the painting and the royal family. The third group will study the painting by Goya of the family of Carlos IV and do the same assignments as the second group.
