Colonial Market Museum: Basketmaker
Hello my name is Sarah. I’m a basket maker. I’m working on a basket. First I have to get logs and cut them into thin strips. Next I have to soak the strips so I can bend them. Then I weave them and save the heartwood for the handle. My mother taught me how to make baskets. The hardest thing for me to do is cut the logs because it takes up so much of my strength. I have to have strong fingers to do it.
