THE NEW COMER
by Katharine

Once upon a time in Manila, a chipmunk was sitting in his cozy little house
when he heard a knock on his door. ”Who is there? asked the chipmunk.
”It is I,Bingo the Dragonfly,” said the voice. ”Well come
in!” the chipmunk said. The door opened. Standing in the doorway was a
small dragonfly. ”Don’t just stand there come in!” Bingo shuffled
in closing the door behind him.
“Hello,” said the chipmunk. “My name is Chipmunk, but you
can call me Chip.” Then Bingo said, “I’m new to this town
and I can’t move in with anyone else. Oh, did I ask you? I have to stay
with someone until my house is built,” Bingo said, a little too quickly.
“You may stay with me if you can’t find someone else to live with,”
said Chip. “Thank you!” Bingo cried. “Anyway, no one will
play with me all the time, just like my brothers did, and now I don’t
know what to do.” “Why did you leave your family?” asked Chip.
”I don’t really want to talk about it ,” Bingo mumbled. “OK,”
said the chipmunk. “Could you help me get some friends?” “Do
I have to do something first?” Bingo asked. “Oh, you don’t
need my help!” Chip said. “Why not?” asked Bingo. “You
just have to be yourself,” said Chip. “All right, I’ll take
your advice,” said Bingo.
The next morning Bingo woke up bright and early. “Well Chip, I’m
off to get a friend!” “Have fun!” Chip called back. That afternoon
Bingo came running in accompanied by three dragonflies. “Chip, this is
Dedee, Daisy and Dusty, my three new friends!” “Wonderful!”
said Chip. And from then on Bingo was never sad again!
