The Discovery in the Woods!

A new dinosaur was discovered.  This dinosaur was discovered by Michelle, a student from Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA.  On Monday February 24, 2003, Michelle was playing in the woods near her house when she saw something moving in the leaves.  She cleaned up the leaves on the ground and saw a real live dinosaur.       Michelle said, “It was a very interesting dinosaur.  It had yellow skin, as yellow as the sun.  It also had green stripes and stars on it’s back”.

Since this was a new dinosaur, paleontologists let Michelle name the dinosaur.  She called it Astromaiacory (as-tro-maee-a-cory).  The name means, “star good mother and helmet”.

Michelle said, “The dinosaur was holding her babies.  She would not let anyone touch them.  If they did she would squeeze them really, really tight.  It looked like a very nice dinosaur but I was still scared”.

When asked how big the dinosaur was Michelle said, “It was 8 feet long and 3 feet high.  It was as big as my dining room table”.  The astromaiacory is related to the plateosaurus from the Triassic period.  The astromaiacory ate bugs.  When asked how it felt to discover a dinosaur Michelle said, “I was as happy as a clown!”
