Second Grade Program

The second grade consists of three self-contained classrooms taught by Barbara Cipolloni, Nancy Jones, Paul Savering, and an intern who assists in all three classes. There are approximately 18 students in each class. The year is divided into three terms: fall, winter, and spring. Our academic units are thematic, interdisciplinary studies that encourage students to make connections from one subject area to another and from one theme to another. Students leave their homerooms to participate in art, music, library, physical education, and science under the direction of "special" (specialist) teachers. Second grade children enjoy a thirty-minute recess period and a thirty-minute lunch period each day. The children are expected to respect one another, to work out differences in a peaceful manner, and to contribute to their community through a variety of service projects. Students are always encouraged to rise to their potential so that self-confidence and competence will grow.

This web site is maintained by the second grade teachers of Germantown Academy, Barbara Cipolloni, Nancy Jones, and Paul Savering. Site design and technical assistance furnished by Carol Siwinski, Curricular Technology Specialist.
