A Legend
Why Owls And Bats Are Nocturnal
By Bird Tracker (Alec) and Timber (Andrew)
One sunny day a long, long time ago,
Owl and Bat were looking for food but they couldn't find any food.
They were as hungry as a skinny bear. They decided to eat each
other! They decided to have a race. The first one to get tired
would be eaten.
"OK? Let's go"! said the bat. They both flew fairly
slow. After flying 2 days and 2 nights
across the land, Owl was so tired he dropped
out of the race. Bat landed on the ground and jumped for joy,
screaming louder than 100 elephants, " I win I win".
But Bat was full from eating insects
as he was flying. So he decided not to eat Owl. The Owl was so
hungry he ate 70 mice on the ground. It was weird because the
mice were more still than a dead bear. Owl and Bat were so tired
from flying and soon fell fast asleep. They slept all day and
it was night when they finally awoke. Bat and Owl thought the
hunting was better at night so they told all their friends that
they should sleep during the day and hunt at night. Word spread
throughout the land, and from that point on, all owls and bats
sleep during the day and hunt at night.
